Myanmar & China Disaster Aid Relief - 2008
The Myanmar cyclone gave the death sentence to over 130,000 people and left 2 million homeless. The earthquake that struck China left 40,000 people dead and 5 million homeless.
ISSO Seva, a humanitarian organization has stepped up in the past and the time has come again to help those in need. A total of over 7 million people in two different countries need us more than ever. We should not hesitate—instead, we need to rise to the occasion and help save the lives of those who are barely hanging on. With that said, imagine a dying child. In order to survive, the child needs to stay warm and needs a course of antibiotics. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have a way of staying warm and medication is a rarity for both him and the others suffering around him. Without these two vital things, he dies. So do hundreds and thousands of others.
Myanmar is not accepting much foreign aid to enter the country. As a result of this, no US based organization is currently collecting or shipping material donations such as clothing and blankets. In addition to this, the country is in debt so they are not receiving much financial assistance or loans. The only option we have as of now is to collect monetary donations. By doing this, we can get 100% of the donations to those in need. Remember, money is something that is both efficient and versatile. We can get it to where it needs to be in a timely manner and the officials can use it to buy the things that they actually need such as medication, food, and clothing. Also keep in mind that the cyclone will cause a future food crisis as the natural disaster has destroyed swathes of fertile land that once grew rice—a major component of their meals.
China, although allowing aid from other countries, continues to see an increase in the death toll. The country is still under warning as aftershocks are suspected and can add to the death toll. Getting money to China will further ensure the lives of those that are barely making it and it can provide aid to the millions who are left homeless.
In a time where the cost of everything is on the rise, take a step back and look at what you do have: food, shelter, and family. Then take a look at those overseas. Food is scarce and the victims go through days and days on empty stomachs. The shelter they once built and lived in is now either wrecked or completely gone. And family is either missing or dead. Your help is their hope. Act Now. Support emergency relief efforts in China & Myanmar by giving to ISSO Seva. Please help now!
